Interactive transcripts for web videos allow a user to navigate a video by highlighting a portion of text in a transcript usually presented in a textbox that is viewable along side or below the video.
C-span appears to use an ajax call to load a div with the transcript content. My mileage has varied with c-spanvideo.org transcripts loading. Seems some don't load, some load but don't interact, and some work perfectly. c-spanvideo.org use 13 external javascripts plus the inline javascript.
My search for a simpler solution has turned up some promising results.
YouTube makes it very easy to add interactive transcripts to videos shown at YouTube, but presently the feature is unavailable to embedded YouTube videos.
By using EasyCaptions with jwplayer, it is possible to provide interactive transcripts for embedded YouTube videos.
