SPC Center Public Severe Weather Outlook (PWO)PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK0852 PM CDT MON APR 28 2025...Severe thunderstorms expected over parts of the Upper Midwestthis evening and overnight...* LOCATIONS... Wisconsin Northern Iowa Far Southeast Minnesota* HAZARDS... Several tornadoes, a few intense Scattered large hail, some baseball size Scattered damaging winds* SUMMARY... Multiple corridors of severe thunderstorms will continue this evening from the Upper Midwest into the central and southern Plains. Tornadoes, large hail, and severe gusts all remain possible, including some potential for strong tornadoes.Preparedness actions...Tornadoes at night can be particularly dangerous because they are usually fast-moving and difficult to see. Stay tuned toNOAA Weather Radio, weather.gov, or other media for watches andwarnings. A tornado watch means that conditions are favorablefor tornadoes to form during the next several hours. If a tornadowarning is issued for your area, move to a place of safety, ideally in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of asturdy building.&&..Gleason.. 04/29/2025Read more |
SPC Apr 29, 2025 0100 UTC Day 1 Convective OutlookDay 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK0812 PM CDT Mon Apr 28 2025Valid 290100Z - 291200Z...THERE IS A MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR SOUTHEASTMN...NORTHERN IA...WESTERN WI......THERE IS AN ENHANCED RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR NORTHWESTTX AND SOUTHWEST OK......SUMMARY...Multiple corridors of severe thunderstorms will continue thisevening from the Upper Midwest into the central and southern Plains.Tornadoes, large hail, and severe gusts all remain possible, including some strong-tornado potential....Upper Midwest...Convection has generally evolved into a linear mode from northern IAinto southeast MN and western WI, though with occasional embeddedsupercells noted. The environment farther south across IA anddownstream of the ongoing storms remains very favorable fororganized convection, with moderate to strong buoyancy and veryfavorable low-level and deep-layer shear. Development of morediscrete storms is uncertain, however. There remains potential for acouple sustained supercells to develop and pose a threat for allsevere hazards, including conditional strong-tornado potential.Otherwise, the ongoing cluster will continue to pose a threat fordamaging winds, hail, and embedded tornadoes as it moves eastwardthrough the evening. Farther west, a couple small supercells may continue in the vicinityof the cold front this evening near the IA/MN border region, beforeweakening later tonight. ...Northeast KS into northwest MO and vicinity...A cluster of supercells is ongoing across northeast KS this evening, with earlier reports of large to very large hail. Given the ongoingclustering of storms, some upscale growth will be possible with timethis evening, with a threat of damaging wind and hail. Increasinglow-level flow with time and eastward extent will also support atornado threat with any supercells that can persist through theevening. ...Southern Plains into southern KS/MO...Widely scattered supercells have developed from northwest TX intosouthwest OK, within a strongly unstable and favorably shearedenvironment. These cells will continue to pose a threat of large tovery large hail and localized severe gusts through the evening. There will also be a window of opportunity this evening for anincreasing tornado threat, including localized strong-tornadopotential, as a strengthening nocturnal low-level jet substantiallyincreases effective SRH. See MCD 592 for more information in thisarea. Additional storm development and eventual evolution of one or moreclusters will be possible later tonight from north TX into OK,south-central/southeast KS, and possibly southern MO, due to theincreasing low-level jet and eventual approach of a cold front fromthe north. The late-night convection could pose a continued threatfor hail and damaging winds, and possibly a tornado for any stormsthat can remain surface based...Dean.. 04/29/2025Read more |
